CODE OF CONDUCT

Glen Iris Junior Football Club is committed to providing a safe, respectful and positive environment for all players, coaches, parents, volunteers, officials and supporters.

Our Code of Conduct outlines the standards expected across the club and helps ensure junior football is played, coached and supported in the right spirit.

COACHES

Coaches play an important role in the development of our players, both on and off the field. GIJFC coaches are expected to:

  • Abide by the Laws of the Game, Club Rules and League Rules.
  • Teach players to understand and respect the rules of the game.
  • Group players fairly and competitively.
  • Avoid overplaying individual players.
  • Keep winning in perspective and maximise enjoyment.
  • Prioritise player safety at all times.
  • Consider player maturity levels when planning training and match day involvement.
  • Encourage respect for teammates, opponents, umpires, officials and coaches.
  • Recognise the importance of proper injury treatment and player welfare.
  • Keep up to date with coaching developments.
  • Maintain the required coaching accreditation.
  • Avoid derogatory or discriminatory language of any kind.
  • Avoid the aggressive recruitment of players.

PLAYERS

GIJFC players are expected to:

  • Play by the laws and rules of the game.
  • Respect umpires and accept their decisions.
  • Control their temper.
  • Be a team player.
  • Show good sportsmanship.
  • Treat all players fairly.
  • Cooperate with coaches and teammates.
  • Play for enjoyment, improvement and team success.
  • Avoid offensive, discriminatory or disrespectful remarks of any kind.

PARENTS

Parents and guardians play a vital role in creating a positive junior football environment. GIJFC parents are expected to:

  • Encourage participation without forcing children to play.
  • Teach that effort, improvement and enjoyment are more important than winning.
  • Encourage children to play by the rules.
  • Remember that children play football for their own enjoyment.
  • Lead by example and applaud good play from both teams.
  • Never ridicule mistakes, losses or performance.
  • Respect the contribution of volunteers, coaches, umpires and officials.
  • Raise concerns privately and respectfully.
  • Support efforts to remove verbal, racial and physical abuse from the game.
  • Support club officials in maintaining high standards of behaviour across the club.
